This is a walking book with a difference - leading you off the beaten track - ideal for walkers who enjoy a challenge, like to test their navigational skills, want to practice using a GPS and get a buzz out of locating additional interesting features.
Doug Brown, author of the popular companion edition for the Dark Peak area of the Peak District, has put together more than 30 similar walks for this beautiful and popular area that is Lakeland. Despite the popularity and busyness of the Lakeland fells, Doug has found some remote and unusual routes to challenge experienced walkers, with the additional excitement of a possible scramble if and when the conditions are suitable.
Doug has sub-divided Lakeland into five separate areas - Central, North and North Western, Southern, Eastern, and Western, with a sixth section containing Two Challenges!
The distance, total ascent and approximate times for each of the routes are detailed, and there's lots of information about special features to look for - both natural and man-made - including memorials, mines, aircraft wreck sites, tarns, and waterfalls.
Accurate GPS map references are given, a necessity because of the unusual nature of the walks - most of them do not stick to the usual well-worn paths but explore the open hillsides and ridges.
So if you fancy a challenge and a walk with a difference, you'll find what you're looking for right here!
