Several updates have taken place for the 2005 reprint of this book. The book has completely re-set, photographs re-scanned and
printed to the very latest printing standards. A brand-new cover and stronger binding add to the enjoyment of this classic book.
Rambling from Manchester? No - not along the city streets
or down suburban roads, but out and about in the super scenery that is so easily
accessible from the city by car or by public transport. Written with style and wit, Rambles around Manchester
informs, educates and entertains. It includes 16
basic routes which can be varied to give around 100 fabulous walks. The areas
covered include the South Pennines, the Ribble Valley, West Lancashire, Delamere
Forest, North Staffordshire, and the Peak District.
The walks are illustrated with striking photographs from
the camera of Reg Timms, a prize-winning Northern photographer. Attractive,
easy-to-follow sketch maps supplement the accurate route descriptions.
Mike Cresswell lives in Bolton. Formerly a solicitor by profession and now a walker and
historian by inclination, Mike devises and leads heritage walks and walking holidays on historical themes
for HF Holidays throughout the north of England. He is a well-known writer, lecturer and broadcaster
and has written many walking books, including several for Sigma Leisure.
A guest on one of his holidays commented:
He really brought to life history and features of the landscape.
He made it more than just a walk. The same could be said of this book!
