Enjoy a ‘Walk in Ancient Lakeland’ and discover sites and
monuments from the Neolithic and Bronze Ages you never knew existed. Discover
the great stone circles, standing stones and burial cairns which still decorate
these beautiful hills. Follow the ancient trackways linking these ancient sites
and explore largely unknown areas to uncover the mysteries of the lives of our
ancestors in this timeless landscape. At the same time feast your eyes over
the beautiful and fascinating wild flowers and bird life, in sites well away
from the busier tourist areas of the ever-popular Lake District. Sketch maps
are included to help you find your way - whether to the sites down in the valleys
beside modern farms and villages, or high on the still wild and remote fells.
The author’s own intricate hand-drawn sketches add to the appeal, depicting
the many standing stones and circles raised in the past by our Lake District
ancestors. Robert Harris, a primary school teacher, developed his interest in
ancient history through years of walking and sketching in the Lake District.
