The Sheffield Greenway is a unique recreational walking route of 111 miles (179 km) around Sheffield, the greenest city in the UK. 90% is off-road, most on natural or improved paths through countryside and yet it never strays more than 7 miles (11 km) from Sheffield city centre. The Greenway meanders through the leafy suburbs in five roughly equidistant loops - south, west, north, east, and into the neighbouring countryside of Rotherham - seeking out the best the leafiest and greenest the city has to offer.

61 % of Sheffield is greenspace; it has many large and beautiful parks, acres of ancient woodland, five scenic river valleys, a canal and numerous wild open spaces. It is also a journey of discovery, packed with visible history and stunning views. The route is described in short stages served by public transport with a frequency of 20 minutes or less. Journey planners help you decide how far you wish to walk on any particular day and bow to get to the start. Something for everyone. You only have to carry a daypack and you are never far from a shop, cafe or pub.
