Yorkshire Walks Oatley Matters.PNG

A new walking book by John Burland has recently been published by Sigma Books. John has lived in Otley for over 30 years but has been treading the “broad acres” of the Yorkshire Dales for over 50 years and therefore has a vast knowledge of the areas covered in this new book.
The book features five walks from each of the six North Yorkshire Dales – Ribblesdale, Airedale, Wharfedale, Nidderdale, Wensleydale and Swaledale and includes walks to suit all ages and capabilities, ranging from short easy four mile walks to much more strenuous walks of up to twelve miles. Locally the book includes walks over Otley Chevin and Ilkley Moor.
A former Scout Leader and founder of The Wainwright Society, John’s walking has taken him to many parts of the UK and abroad but he still reckons The Yorkshire Dales is one of the finest walking areas with its vast variety of scenery. For the past four years John has been researching and walking these routes. As well as the route descriptions themselves the book also contains a plethora of historical and local details of the area that the routes cover.
John has been a regular contributor to Dalesman & Cumbria magazines for the last 20 years. He has also presented his one-man show, An Evening with Alfred Wainwright over 30 times to audiences throughout the North of England.
